I've always loved Potterybarn's art desk but not the price so I decided to try and create it myself.
I started with finding a used cheap solid table. This one was a kitchen table that I took the legs off and the wood molding on the bottom which I will reuse to stabilize the top to the bookcases . After sanding it I repainted it with 2 coats of high quality flat black paint.
I found Martha Stewart cube bookcases at Home Depot for $40 each. These were great and so easy to assemble it only took me 45 minutes for both. Love it!!
I put the cubes where I wanted them so I could figure out the measurements to cut the two pieces of molding left from the bottom of the table. You can't see it very well but the strips of wood seat back about 2 inches from the front of the table between the cubes. It helps keep the table top from sliding around and gives it a finished look.
The finished product!! What do you think??
This whole project cost me $120.00.....Pottery Barn table about $1000.00 on sale.

I wanted a different look above the fireplace so here is..................Before meets After
I needed to fill a wall space after I took pictures for my fireplace so since I had a coupon (I never waste a good coupon) for Michaels Craft I got the frames for $5 each and I already had the Ansel Adam calendar from 2005 so 10 minutes of very little labor.........What do you think??
